DAY TWO: AWARENESS IN CONGRUENCE WITH THE DIVINE SELF
(quotes from the book are in bold print)
p. 4-7
Towards the end of the Prologue I was reminded of an image/metaphor created by the Russian mystic Gurdjieff.

This a paraphrase: “Imagine a coach with a driver and six very strong horses. The coach has been traveling here and there for many years. Without warning an arm holding a cane reaches out the coach’s window and taps the driver on the leg and a voice from within says, “Turn left.”
“Who are you?”, the driver asks, “I own this coach; I just woke up; now turn left.”

The coach is you/your physical existence; the driver is your ego consciousness; the horses your thoughts and emotions; and the owner of the coach is your inner awareness/spiritual consciousness.

The scene is now set, and the driver (your ego) is not going to relinquish control that quickly. What we are hinting at here, however, is that coming into your spiritual awareness and begin guided by it does not have to be a battle either.

The understanding that follows is: “Now the reason you are having the resistance to teaching in this manner is threefold.”

1) fear with your issues of truth. For such a long time you have accepted falsehood as truth, so dealing with what is really true is going to feel risky and uncomfortable.

2)   your “shoulds"==how this learning should feel; what it should be like; what the results should look like. This is the thinking mind attempting to get comfortable with something new. According to the mind everything should be orderly, explainable, etc.
In our experience with Spirit that is probably not going to happen.

3) your responsibility to yourself. What we are affirming in this next step, if we wish to take it, is “I am responsible for what shows up in my life.” I might not like it and have a difficult time loving it, but it’s mine and I need to find positive healthy ways to deal with it. (There is a continuing consolation and comfort that goes with this work, however, and that is that we are never alone. Help is always available in physical and non-physical form. —BUT you do have to ask!)

The “you” that is being spoken of here is much bigger than the “you” you normally identify with, and that is part of this whole lesson. Please learn to sink into that one. The personal you or me is only a shell, a mask, a vehicle.

“So in this case we will say that, “What am I? Who am I? Who am I to do this?” is not your responsibility either. You are simply the vehicle for the manifestation of this book.”

As I mentioned on Sunday morning, we are approaching the idea of “creating your own reality” in a deeper way here.

“Now the radical idea that man creates his own reality is nothing more than language given to something that has been at play since the beginning of creation. And we have spoken about this in the previous text and we will describe it again.”

Not really a radical idea at all; it has been taught in spiritual literature for millennia. Remember that one from the Old Testament Book of Proverbs 23:7
”For as he thinks within himself, so he is.” and I could go digging in spiritual literature from all over and find similar teachings.

So let me just end with this section for the book. I would encourage us to meditate and sit with this; don’t try to figure it out, just let it speak to you.

“There can be nothing created in this land, in this existence, in this plane of consciousness without it being thought first. Now the simplicity of this idea is something you understand, but is not something that you navigate with in awareness on a day-to-day basis. “I didn’t create the subway system.” “I didn’t create the blemish.” “I didn’t create the tree.” Well, in fact you did. You all did, on a collective level of thought.
The world around you has been created in order to give you an experience of yourselves in reality that will come forth and bring about the change of consciousness that you require. Paul is seeing a kindergarten classroom where the walls have been painted with colorful figures. And those are paintings, out-pictured, meant to appeal to the level of maturity and consciousness of the people who tend to stay in that room all day, which are very small people who have certain requirements.”
