AWARENESS OF THE SENSES 2
P. 49-53
This section suggests an experiential piece with partner. I believe some of that suggestion is to help us get out of our heads (which are usually filled with thoughts of limitation). I would certainly suggest doing this, and if you cannot, at least use the suggestions from this section and imagine or meditate with them so you can begin to get a sense of going beyond your five senses. In other words, getting more information from the deeper senses of your awareness.
I love this quote:
“If you understand, frankly, that prayer is concentrated psychic thought with an intention to applicate to the divine, you will see that application in negative ways occurs just as readily when someone sends out a negative consciousnesses to bid energy to change.”
Prayer is the concentrated energy of thought—in apposite way; one that raises the vibration of all involved, BUT we can also use concentrated (highly focused) thought to create lower vibration/frequency as well.
We kind of played around with this idea in class today: Imagine that you are sitting facing, a person in your life, a person that you care about. And you begin by just looking a them as a body, as an object. A body with a face, internal organs, a beating heart, breathing etc.
It would not take long for you to become aware that this Person is much more than just a body, much more than an object. You would be come aware of feelings, acts of kindness, and then it wouldn't be long before you would be perceiving this person as a spiritual being, perhaps somewhat like yourself, but also with their own unique qualities. And all of this can be happening in a ver short time—your senses, your awareness has gone far beyond what your eyes simply tell you.
We are encouraged to be aware that we are using these deeper perceptions all the time. In fact we used to call it ESP, extra sensory perception. However, most of us thought these realms of awareness are limited to a few. Like the rarified atmosphere of the mountain top—only a few chosen individuals could partake.
But as we stretch our own awareness we discover that there are all sorts of ways of knowing that we can take part in.
As per most spiritual work this is going to seem very threatening to the ego. The ego is going to suggest, “Oh, you’re just imagining that ; that was just coincidence; you must have just spaced out for moment.” And the strange thing is we will start to believe that; we will immediately buy into the ego’s limitations.
What I would suggest when that happens, do not get into an argument with the ego, simply realize you are being confronted with some low energy, low vibration thoughts and through willingness, intention and whatever other tools might be available to you, raise yourself above those thoughts of limitation to thoughts, action, of love, joy, grace, gratitude, etc.
Nothing in the physical world is as it seems because it is constantly changing; atoms are moving from one form to another, electrons are all over the place, even most of the cells in your body are different from the ones you and seven years ago.
It might sound little silly, but the thought I had today was (to use an example) to pick an object in your home, let’s say a table, and write or imagine the story of that table. You could go back to when it was a tree, then to a factory or work room , etc. As you follow that history you can know that this thing, this object, is in consent change, and is even different today than it was yesterday. We are only seeing what was, as ACIM puts it “I am only seeing the past.”
We also realize this “thing” we are seeing is alive with potential.
So the more we become aware of the fluid nature of all material things we begin o become more aware of the truth that everything is vibration, including our bodies, our thoughts, etc.
We will end with this one today:
“Each one of you has a mind’s eye, a place in your mind where you visualize, where you imagine how you would look in that outfit, or when you imagine yourself being late for work and you picture the reaction there of your boss. We want you to become familiar at this time with that aspect of the self that sees in the mind’s eye and become aware of what you see. Now we will speak of Paul for a moment to give you an example of sight.”
